How many of you knew that Darl Bowersox was on a Nazarene church board for 35 years, that he taught boys Sunday School for 15 years, that he had been a Sunday School Superintendent for 9 years or that he had served 5 years as NYPS President. What an honor when he received the Distinguished Service Award. Darl has been a Nazarene, a doctrine he believes in, for almost 70 years! What a heart for the Nazarene church!
Darl was born and raised in St. Charles, Pa and after high school attended a trade school, where he learned about Agriculture and later became an industrial electrician. Upon retirement (34 years now) he moved to Lakeland because of some friends who lived here. Can we say an “Amen” for those friends!
We thank you Darl, for serving our country in WWII from 1943 - 45 in Germany and France. Darl was even presented with the French Legion of Honor Award.
In 1986, Darl started attending LGC (the same year LGC was first established). A little later he married Henrietta, who by the way, was also a wonderful asset to our church family. We lost a good lady when she went to heaven in June of 2011. In Jan 2012, his daughter Tera decided to put his name on Christian Mingle.com (as did Mary’s kids) and now he and Mary have now been married for 7 years (7-21-12). Thank goodness Tera did this as we are so unbelievably blessed to have Mary as part of our LGC family. Besides for Mary, he has a daughter, Tera and 3 grandsons; two that live with Tera in Arizona and another in Ocala. On top of that, he also has 6 great grandchildren! Since becoming a part of our LGC family, Darl has helped with remodel projects, ushering and anything else asked of him.
Darl’s favorite thing to do, besides hanging out with Mary, is to fish and has spent many hours out on a lake with Howard Thomas, Ken Wilson and Leon Dodson. I wonder who has the better fish story? But I bet you didn’t know that in his younger years he liked to race stock cars at the South Bend Motor Speedway and Playland Park in South Bend, Indiana. Don’t you love learning these little tidbits!
Darl’s favorite scripture is: Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us. Hebrews 12:1
