Jennifer Deal Brooks is a born and bred fourth generation Nazarene, as her grandpa, James O. Deal was a Nazarene preacher and that is all she’s known. You may know her from the choir in our traditional service or worship leader in the contemporary service. She has lived in Lakeland all her 41 years and when she was about 11, her family started attending LGC where there more programs offered for the kids and teens and it was a little closer to home. After graduating from Lake Gibson High School, she started working at LGC Daycare as a teacher where she met the love of her life, Chris (also a teacher) and they have been blessed with 2 beautiful teenage daughters, Ashely and Melanie. All of Jennifer’s immediate family attend LGC; her mom and dad, Al and Virginia Deal; brother Greg and wife Wendy Deal & their children; sister Julie and husband Sean Esquinaldo & their children and also her mother in law, Diane Brooks. Now days Jennifer is following in her mom’s footsteps and takes care of precious little ones at home. She is a natural with children but gained much experience when she previously served as LGCDC Director. More experience comes from 20+ years of working with our children’s department here at LGC. Jennifer loves to sing and cook and many of us can testify that she is great at both! So here is a tidbit you may not know about her…. Jennifer’s dad PAID her to not have a boyfriend while in high school and she accepted the money graciously. Chris was her first boyfriend (after graduation) at age 18. Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and he shall direct your paths.” This scripture has served her well throughout her life. We at LGC are blessed to have her as part of our family.
I can do all things thru Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13 This is Cindy Wasden’s favorite scripture. Cindy was born in Kalamazoo, Mi and grew up in Deerfield, Fl. She attended Concord Career to become a dental assistant and has now worked for Family Dentistry for the past 13 years. She met her husband of 31 years, Allen, while out with friends at the movies. Cindy and Allen have two children, Logan, who lives in Jacksonville and Wendi, who attends college at UCF. After visiting Allen’s folks here in Lakeland, they decided to make it their home town too and have for the past 13 years. Cindy started attending Lake Gibson Church of the Nazarene in 2008 when Allen suggested that she might find some new friends at church but Cindy needed to find a church first. She didn’t have far to go as LGCDC is where her daughter Wendi, was enrolled in daycare. (A great example of how our daycare should be part of our mission field) Since becoming part of our LGC family, Cindy has been a great asset in many ways such as being a part of VBS, choir, missions and helping in the children’s department. Her talents/hobbies include singing and dancing and roller skating. “But my most favorite thing of all is play word games!” LGC is blessed to have Cindy as part of our church family.
